Looking to make your hair look amazing without negatively impacting the environment or resorting to using too many chemicals? Then this is the blog for you. Read on for the Peace With the Wild guide to styling hair the natural way.
Preparing the hair
The basis of any good hairstyle is healthy, clean hair and the best way to achieve that is through the use of natural haircare products such as an vegan, organic, natural shampoo and natural conditioner, ideally ones that are plastic free as well. We have a great range of natural shampoo bars, natural conditioner bars and natural conditioner liquids that are all plastic free. Using eco, sustainable, natural haircare products that are free from nasty chemicals and ingredients there to ‘fake’ the feel of healthy tresses significantly improves the health, feel, and look of your hair. You could use natural shampoo bars, natural conditioner bars or natural conditioner liquids. Of course, if you don’t have time to wash and dry but you still need to look on form, then you can always use a natural dry shampoo with vegan friendly and organic ingredients such as these from Primal Suds to give you an extra day or two grace before you need to lather up.
Another great tip for beautifully, nourished, smooth, and shiny hair is using a natural hair treatment or natural hair mask. Look out for one that is made with vegan, cruelty free, organic, natural ingredients that moisturise your hair. Simply use a natural hair treatment or natural hair mask at least once a week for silky, smooth hair, that is ready to be styled the natural way. Just massage into your hair and leave for a few minutes, then wash with water and let your hair dry naturally without the use of a hair dryer, for amazing results.Â
Get rid of all the knots
Once you have given your hair a good shampoo and condition, you need to remove any knots or tangles. We suggest using a plastic-free, natural haircare product such as natural hair rinse  with vegan and organic ingredients to suit your hair type as they help to detangle, remove product build up and add shine. Frequent brushing or combing, when done properly can increase blood flow to your scalp, stimulating hair growth. It’s best to opt for a natural wooden or sustainable bamboo, environmentally friendly hair brush or natural hair comb as not only are they eco friendly, vegan, kinder to our planet, but they are kinder on your hair as well.
Add a natural hair styling product
Natural hair styling products are great natural, vegan, chemical free alternative to commercial styling products that can be damaging to to hair and the environment around us. Natural hair styling products are especially wonderful if your hair’s a little on the wild side, just run a natural hair styling product through the ends to tame it. A spritz of natural hair spray by Moo would do the trick! Or if it is volume and waves you are looking for then it would be worth trying natural volumising spray and natural sea salt spray for that textured beach locks look. In our natural haircare range we have some lovely eco, vegan, cruelty free, natural styling creams, waxes and clays that come in metal tins and are recyclable, plastic free, sustainable and totally environmentally friendly. Scented with natural essential oils such as lemongrass, cedarwood, or sandalwood, they also make your hair smell divine.
Tie it up and you are away
Once you have washed, rinsed, and combed your hair, you are ready to progress to the last step in the natural hair styling process. If you like to tie your hair up and out of the way, we stock a superb range of organic, plastic free, eco hair ties that come in different colours to suit your hair type, or mood. Eco hair ties that are made from eco-friendly, organic cotton and all 100% biodegradable, you can sweep up your hair into your style of choice, without feeling guilty about using plastic- based products.
Now you have all the tips to style your hair the natural way and transform you and your natural haircare routine in to something amazing!
I’d love to know more about hair clays… I am looking for hair styling products for medium length curly hair that is quite dry and coloured. I’m hair looks best when it’s shiny and frizz free with soft bouncy spiral curls. I would love some advice on which products would work best.
Hi Laoise,
if you would like your hair to remain shiny i would recommend a hair wax rather than clay as clay can have a matte finish.
