Refill Volume & Sheathing Mascara

Our ZAO Volume and Sheathing Mascara thickens and gives volume to lashes, accentuating your eyes. This natural, organic mascara works incredibly well and acts just like a traditional mascara and yet it has none of those nasty chemicals in the ingredients!

Unlike mascara with chemical ingredients, ZAO mascara reduces the risk of redness and irritation to your eyes, allowing you to wear your mascara for longer and daily. Their formula contains high-quality raw materials ideal for regular use and suitable for sensitive eyes.

Important Ingredients

These ingredients are what make Zao makeup so special and effective.

Phyllostachis Nigra Extract* (Organic bamboo leaves hydrosol): Regenerates epidermis

Product of the distillation of bamboo leaves, it is mainly composed of pure silica and has been widely used in oriental medicine. Organic silica, which is a component of connective tissue, is present throughout the human body and regenerates the epidermis through the synthesis of collagen and elastin. Over time, our silica reserve diminishes, causing demineralisation and loss of skin elasticity. It is therefore necessary to regularly replenish the skin with transcutaneous supplies. For this reason, most of the products in the ZAO range contain organic silica.

Acacia senegal gum: Intensifying and soothing

Acacia gum or Arabic gum, derived from the acacia senegal tree, is used as a bonding agent which improves the mascara and eyeliner’s hold. Its wealth of polysaccharides and glycoproteins also makes it a real tightening and lifting cosmetic asset. In addition, acacia has softening, soothing and healing qualities for fragile mucous membranes, which helps prevent irritation when applying mascara.

Silver (CI 77820) (micronised silver powder): Natural preservative

These micro-particles of pure silver are antiseptic (especially on skin and mucous membranes) and antibacterial as well, thereby preserving the product and protecting the skin. Microsilver is often used in creams to treat burns. Almost all products in the ZAO range (except the two lipbalms) contain micro-particles of pure silver (a natural preservative).

Packaging

This bottle is plastic but it is easily recyclable and much better than replacing the whole thing. You keep the felt tip applicator and wash between refills.

Use the brush to start off with the upper lashes, holding the brush horizontally close to the root, move up in a zigzag motion while you look down.

Make sure to go over and concentrate on the ends to enlarge the eye as well as on the centre to open up the eyes.

Gently tap the eye lashes when applying mascara to the lower lashes, ensuring that you don’t overload them and leave them with a clean but volumised look.

Tips: before you put on mascara, always make sure your eyelashes are dry and free of cream or oil and if possible dust them with powder (this will give even more volume and staying power)

Open the mascara gently and in one movement, avoid pumping to keep the product on the brush, but make sure that you haven’t overloaded it also. If so just gently remove any excess with a tissue (not at the opening of the bottle)

If you have a few drops of mascara on your skin after you’ve applied it, wait until it is dry, then gently wipe it off with a our biodegradable cotton swabs.

If you are wearing foundation, you can dab a little on the cotton swab before removing the mascara to ensure your complexion remains even.

How To Refill

To refill your mascara, simply remove the centre that holds the mascara and replace with your new refill.

The middle is separated by a metal ring, which makes it easier to pull the empty bottle out.
