We are creatures of habit, so switching from a mainstream bottled shampoo to a natural shampoo bar can be daunting. But we hope to convince you that it is completely worth it.
If you’re eager to practice an eco-friendly lifestyle, you might be considering some sustainable bathroom swaps, and natural shampoo bars are a great place to start. That’s why we’ve put together a few benefits of transitioning to solid shampoo.
Plastic-free
Shampoo bars are completely plastic-free, confronting the pressing issue that only half of UK bathroom waste is recycled – accounting for 30 – 40% of all total landfill waste. When plastic bottles aren’t recycled, they stick around either in landfill or waterways for hundreds of years and never fully decompose, which is why we’re big believers in minimising plastic usage altogether.
“Best swap to start with and so worth it” – @gemmainsworthh
Introducing a solid shampoo bar to your bathroom routine is a great way to tackle this issue, since all are supplied in plastic free, eco-friendly packaging that can either be reused or recycled to help minimise waste and reduce plastic pollution.
Long-lasting
“I’d never go back. Not only is it good for the environment, but for my pocket too. My shampoo bar lasted around 4 – 6 months” – @the_little_green_bean_
While shampoo bars may initially seem pricier than cheap (but not so cheerful) counterparts, they are in fact extremely concentrated which means a little goes a long way. Unlike mainstream shampoos, which on closer inspection feature water at the top of their lengthy ingredients lists, solid shampoo is difficult to use in excess since you apply directly to your head.
“I will not be going back to bottled shampoo! My hair looks and feels amazing and there are SO many bubbles! Total convert.” – @stormtrooperswims
Worry not about a lack of lather, since you’ll find suds are summoned straight away. And not only does the product last substantially longer – it’s been said two to three times as much – but our customers often find that they need to wash their hair less as a result of switching to natural ingredients.
Simple ingredients
A less-known fact is that the majority of the best-selling shampoos on the market contain silicones, plastics and synthetic chemicals, all of which present the illusion of sleek, shiny hair but can make it greasy quickly. Meanwhile shampoo bars contain only natural, vegan, cruelty-free, chemical-free and palm oil-free ingredients that encourage your hair to rejuvenate and revert back to its natural state.
“This is the best swap I’ve ever made – hair looks healthier, feels thicker and lasts longer between washes!” – @wovendaisy
Initially, this can result in a transition phase in which we produce more natural oils than needed to overcompensate, or residues may be left behind from previous hair products. But many of our customers would agree that it’s worth the wait, since in the long run, shampoo bars are a healthier option for our hair. You can find out more about the transitional period here, however we now offer some popular brands that champion having no transition phase at all, including Zero Waste Path.
“VERY happy I made the switch! Hair has never felt better” – @annathompson_london

As well as the above, using a natural shampoo bar reduces your carbon footprint since you won’t bear the manufacturing weight associated with another plastic bottle, and also requires less space during transportation… so less miles taken! Equally, they’re a great size for travelling, even if that’s just to a friend’s house, and they are perfect for a minimalist bathroom look.
