Five common myths about keeping your teeth clean and healthy
Here are five of the most common myths and misconceptions about keeping your teeth and gums healthy and clean.
Here are some of the most common myths we hear about natural dental care, and the truth behind them!
The harder your eco friendly toothbrush is, the better it cleans
When it comes to natural dental care you might think that the harder your eco friendly toothbrush is, the better it is for getting your gnashers clean, but you would be wrong. Hard natural, sustainable, vegan, eco toothbrushes can be tough on your gums and teeth causing damage. Instead, you should opt for a natural soft or medium bristle eco friendly toothbrush and brush your teeth slowly and gently for a longer period of time, to get a better result. As well as a natural beechwood handle eco friendly toothbrush, you could also go for a sustainable, natural, bamboo, eco friendly toothbrush with either ultra soft, soft, medium bristle.
Flossing using eco dental floss is unnecessary
Some people think that flossing isn’t necessary, in fact in the UK many people don’t use eco dental floss at all, especially when compared with our US counterparts. When it comes to your natural dental care routine brushing is not enough and natural flossing is an essential step in ensuring that you remove bits that your eco friendly toothbrush can’t get to, and that you get to bits that your vegan, eco friendly toothbrush can’t reach. If you don’t use eco dental floss, you are actually leaving around 33% of your mouth unclean which is quite shocking as well as a bit gross.
You don’t need natural mouthwash
Again, some people say that you don’t need to use natural mouthwash as part of your natural dental care routine but really, rinsing your mouth out with an eco-friendly, natural mouthwash with organic, vegan, natural ingredients helps to whiten teeth, prevent cavities, and stop the build-up of plaque. Natural mouthwash also keeps your breath fresh and can calm down sensitive teeth and gums, which is why it is so important and is an essential step in your natural dental care routine.
Brushing your teeth hard will make your teeth cleaner
No, brushing your teeth hard will only make things worse. In fact, over-vigorous brushing can make your gums bleed and layers of enamel wear off your teeth- neither of which are good things. Instead, use a natural soft, medium, or hard bristle eco friendly toothbrush as part of your natural dental care routine made with recyclable, eco, natural, biodegradable, sustainable bamboo or plastic-free beechwood handle and use it gently over your teeth and gums. Remember, you should be brushing at a 45-degree angle to your gums and be sure to work the eco friendly toothbrush inside and outside the parts of your mouth and don’t forget to brush your tongue!
Natural toothpaste doesn’t work
Just because something is natural, vegan or organic it doesn’t mean it isn’t effective, likewise just because something is full of fancy-sounding chemicals, doesn’t mean it is good for you. You might be concerned that using natural toothpaste in your natural dental care routine is not capable of doing the same job as its commercial counterparts, but depending on which natural toothpaste you choose, you might be surprised. We stock fluoride free and with fluoride varieties, so you can decide which natural toothpaste you prefer- with fluoride is particularly good at fighting and preventing cavities.
Thank you for the tip about not using hard toothbrushes. My dentist told me a soft to medium brush is much better and, as you state, brushing slowly in a mindful way, gets them cleaner than scrubbing away and is kinder to gums as it doesn’t scratch.
Thank you for stocking such a good array of dental products. Trying to find something not with bicarb of soda as I thought that was abrasive to teeth enamel..
Hi Gloria, we are so glad you have found dental products that work for you! I believe the concerns around sodium bicarbonate causing enamel and gum damage is due to people using only sodium bicarbonate to brush their teeth, which would over time erode the enamel and irritate and potentially damage the gums. Our natural toothpaste has a low concentration and is also buffered by the inclusion of organic coconut and shea butter oils and so we believe would not cause damage to enamel and gums. We have received the following statement from Georganics regarding bicarbonate of soda – We use sodium bicarbonate in our natural toothpastes as a mild abrasive in order to remove plaque and to provide a brightening function to the toothpaste. The concentration of sodium bicarbonate in our natural toothpastes is quite low at <5%w/w, meaning that out of a total composition there is only <5% sodium bicarbonate in the toothpaste.
Hello, do you have any suggestions for a natural replacement for sensitive tooth paste?
Thanks
Richard
Hi Richard,
Thanks for getting in touch. We’ve found that our Georganics range is best for sensitive teeth. In particular the Tee Tree or Eucalyptus flavour.
I’d recommend combining this with Ben&Anna sensitive mouthwash – https://www.peacewiththewild.co.uk/product/ben-anna-natural-mouthwash-sensitive-500ml/
All the best,
Harry
